17.5 Weeks

I'm happy to say that I gained 10 pounds last month....my doctor is thrilled.  Especially since I lost weight the month before when I got so sick and had the food poisoning.  My babies are growing well, they were actually measuring 3-4 days ahead of schedule on my last ultrasound a few weeks ago.  The good thing about having twins is that I see a high risk doctor every 2.5 weeks and get an ultrasound every time, so I get to see my little boys very often.  It's funny because I can even see their individual personalities and although they are identical, they are very different.  My baby B is very active while my baby A is more relaxed.  I can feel them moving around now, yay!

I'm just so glad that I'm not so sick anymore, since I reached my second trimester things have gotten a lot better with me.  I actually feel like doing things even though my belly is the size of a 29 week pregnancy - I feel okay.

15 Weeks - It's Two Boys!

Oh my goodness, I can say that these two little babies have put me through the ringer already.  I had to spend 3 nights in the hospital due to food poisoning and an infection, then a few days later I went back in for a cerclage, and this week I started having mild contractions and was put on Procardia every 6 hours to stop the contractions.  Although I didn't have an appointment this week, I just felt that something was not right with me, I had a dull lower back ache and slight pressure at the bottom of my stomach.  It was something that I could have dismissed and just dealt with but decided to air on the side of caution, even though I initially felt really silly for calling the nurse.  I'm so glad that I didn't wait until my scheduled appointment next week to call the doctor because I was actually having contractions, which could have ended very bad for me if I would have waited.

The good news is through all of this....my beautiful babies are very active and healthy and are growing and developing as they should.  I also found out last week that I'm having baby boys!  My husband and I are so excited and very blessed, that they are doing well despite my uncooperative body.  I'm sure I'm headed to bed rest way sooner than I anticipated at the rate I'm going.

Updates

I didn't expect to see the inside of a hospital until the day of my cerclage, but I got the pleasure of being admitted the Saturday before.  I just couldn't stop throwing up and I was just feeling aweful and my stomach was cramping horribly.  My husband took me to the ER and they kept me.  Apparently, I got some type of food poisoning from the dip that I was eating with my carrots - I was really trying to eat healthy!

Of course they immediately did an ultrasound to check the babies and they are fine, thank God!  However, mama felt like she was about to die at any moment.  I got to a point to where I was vomiting bright yellow stomach bile, resulting in severe dehydration.  Thankfully, I was able to have my cerclage surgery and am doing a lot better now.  Only 12 weeks along, and these babies are already kicking my butt.

The Fun Begins!

Since being released from the RE, I attended my 1st appointment with my Maternal Fetal Medicine, high risk doctor on Thursday.  At the time I was 11 weeks 1 day, and the twins are still looking good and growing as they should.  My little Baby B is very active, just as he was in the prior ultrasounds I've noticed much more activity than Baby A which the doctor had to poke to get to move around during my ultrasound.  Baby A was just chilling out either sleeping or watch the show, while Baby B basically did a series of kicks and flips.

Now that was the good news, the bad news is that my cervix is already shortening, it was already 2.97 cm and very soft so I will need to get a cerclage this Thursday.  She didn't say I would be on bed rest right away but its coming soon, I'm sure.  This is fine with me, whatever it takes to keep my babies healthy and as close as possible to term.  Just praying that my cervix holds up until then and there are no further problems.

10 weeks 2 days

I know I've been so out of touch, but I've been so so so sick.  Nausea, headaches, and feeling blah.  I'm going through the 1st trimester blues double time.  The good news is that the twins seem to be doing okay and appear to be healthy thus far.  I had my 10 week ultrasound done the other day and both babies are measuring just as they should, except one is measuring a day ahead of the other.  It was funny because Baby B didn't want to be still long enough for the tech to measure its heart rate.  All we could see were that little legs and arms just moving up a storm.  Finally she was able to get an accurate rate - 172 bpm, wow I guess he/she had quite a work out.  The other twin's heart rate was 168 bpm, so both have healthy hearts.

Since I graduated from the RE this week, I have an appointment with a Maternal Fetal Medicine Doctor next this Thursday.  Since I am very high risk, this will be my doctor from here on out - no regular OB's or midwifes for me.  So I'm looking forward to a gazillion doctors appointments, either weekly or bi-weekly depending on what she wants to do.  So far, I have complete placenta previa which adds to my already existing list of risk factors - I'm 35, carrying Monochorionic/Diamniotic twins, and have a history of pre-term labor.  I pray every night that my babies continue to do well and that I will be able to deliver two healthy babies this summer.

6w5d Ultrasound

Today DH and I went in for my ultrasound and got really good news.  We found two gestational sacks but one was empty.....however, we were very very pleasantly surprised to find two little babies with healthy heartbeats in the other sack.  YES, IDENTICAL TWINS!

Wow!  We did not see that one coming, but we are so happy and absolutely truly blessed.  Both babies appear to be healthy and are measuring where they should. I finally got my due date, September 8th!
